The six areas we plan to test. The editor's rating below is separate from these planned tests.

Capability and output quality: editor's rating 6.5/10, no hands-on test yet

  • Known so far: Pulse insights in Slack, Microsoft Teams and email; apps for Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace; a mobile app; and a hosted Tableau Cloud MCP endpoint 25.
  • Planned test: Connect a sample dataset, build a Pulse metric and call the data from an MCP-capable agent; log setup time and errors.

  • Planned test: Request the reports; read the AI data-handling terms for the edition tested.

Support and documentation: editor's rating 6/10, no hands-on test yet

  • Known so far: All customers get Standard Success; Cloud+ and the Tableau+ Bundle include Premier Success with 24/7 expedited support 1.

Drawbacks and risks. Some AI features sit in higher editions: Pulse's Enhanced Q&A is "available exclusively with Tableau+" 2, and Tableau Agent is listed under Cloud+ 1. We found no independent test of Tableau's AI features we could cite today.

What does Tableau say Tableau is?

Web authoring, Tableau Desktop and Prep Builder, a mobile app, Slack, Microsoft Teams, email, and apps for Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace 125.

How is Tableau deployed?

Tableau Cloud is fully hosted; Tableau Server is self-managed and runs on-premises, in a private cloud or in a public cloud instance; Tableau Next is built on Salesforce's Hyperforce with Data 360 as the unified data layer 13. "All Tableau products require an annual contract, billed annually." There are no monthly plans, and every deployment needs at least one Creator license 1. Tableau Desktop Free Edition cannot connect to Tableau Cloud or Server or publish work online 1.

What do we know about Tableau data, privacy and security?

Tableau says Cloud meets "industry compliance, including SOC II, ISO, HIPAA, GDPR, and PCI" 5 and that Pulse's AI capabilities "are built on the Agentforce Trust Layer" 2. Salesforce's public compliance site lists Tableau documents including SOC 2 and SOC 3 reports, a PCI attestation, a HIPAA Security Rule paper, a C5 report and a Pulse security overview 6; we saw the titles only.
