Editorial policy

The standards we hold ourselves to: evidence before hype, independence from commercial relationships, and visible corrections.

Evidence before hype

Evidence

  • We do not fabricate quotations, benchmark numbers, user reviews, customer counts, research results, security authorizations, or regulatory statuses.
  • We never present a marketing claim as an independent finding, and we never imply a source supports a conclusion it does not.
  • If independent testing has not happened, we say so. If a claim cannot be verified, we label it.
  • We link to primary sources where possible and record when we last checked them.

Labels we use

  • Vendor-reported claim

A statement made by the company that sells the product. Useful as a lead, not as a finding.

  • Independently observed

Behaviour a reviewer saw directly but did not measure under a repeatable protocol.

  • Independently measured

A result produced under a documented, repeatable protocol run by someone independent of the vendor.

  • Third-party research

Work published by researchers or institutions other than us or the vendor. We link it; we have not reproduced it.

  • Editorial interpretation

Our reading of what the evidence means. Judgment, clearly separated from the evidence itself.

  • Unverified

A claim we could not confirm, or have not yet checked. It should not be relied on.

Independence

Independence

  • Affiliate commissions, sponsorships, and vendor payments never determine scores, rankings, or conclusions. The scoring code has no access to commercial data. See the affiliate disclosure.
  • Vendors cannot buy or approve an evaluation. A vendor may send us corrections and evidence, which we treat as claims to check.
  • Sponsored content, if ever offered, will be labelled and kept out of rankings.

Review and updates

Review

  • Each article shows its publication date, any update date, and an editorial-review status. “Editorial review pending” means a named editor has not yet signed it off.
  • Product information, prices, and authorizations change. We record when each was verified, and treat old verifications as stale.
  • Policy entries are published only after being checked against the primary source.
