This review is based on Elicit's own pricing page, help center, privacy policy and trust center. We have not run hands-on tests yet. A tested score will be added only after the planned tests are run.

| Hands-on tests | None run |
The six areas we plan to test. The editor's rating below is separate from these planned tests.
Capability and output quality: editor's rating 7/10, no hands-on test yet
- Known so far: Search across 138 million papers and 545,000 clinical trials, cited reports, data-extraction tables and a systematic review workflow 211. Vendor case studies on its home page quote a 99.4% extraction accuracy for one customer 2; we could not check it.
- Planned test: Run questions with answers we verified in advance; check every cited sentence and every extracted value against the paper.
Reliability and consistency: editor's rating 5/10, no hands-on test yet
- Known so far: Elicit's own limitations page says it "can miss the nuance of a paper or misunderstand what a number refers to" 5. A public status page exists at status.elicit.com; we did not review its history.
- Planned test: Ask the same question repeatedly and compare the papers and values returned.
Workflow fit and integrations: editor's rating 7/10, no hands-on test yet
- Known so far: Zotero import, export to RIS, CSV, BIB, PDF and DOCX, a browser extension for full-text retrieval, an API and an MCP server 1913.

Privacy and security evidence: editor's rating 6/10, no hands-on test yet
- Known so far: The trust center lists a SOC 2 Type 2 report and Cyber Essentials, and names Amazon Web Services, Anthropic and OpenAI among subprocessors 7. Uploaded PDFs are described as private to your account 6. The privacy policy page is dated September 12, 2023 and does not mention AI models or training 8.
- Planned test: Request the SOC 2 report; read the data processing addendum and ask whether the Basic and Pro plans' content is used to train any model.
Support and documentation: editor's rating 5.5/10, no hands-on test yet
- Known so far: A help center, an API reference at docs.elicit.com and a status page 9. Enterprise lists a dedicated customer success team 1.

What is Elicit?
Elicit is an AI research assistant from Elicit Research, PBC. Its home page says "Elicit helps researchers be 10x more evidence-based" 2. It offers a Research Agent, paper search, research reports, systematic literature reviews, a library and scheduled Routines 2.
What do independent users report about Elicit?
Strengths. The vendor describes sentence-level citations for AI-generated claims and a structured systematic review workflow with screening and extraction stages 211. Vendor documentation
Drawbacks and risks. Elicit's help center says it "summarizes the findings of a bad study just like it summarizes the findings of a good study" 5. The pricing page also shows two sets of paid prices. We found no independent test of Elicit we could cite today; the customer figures on the home page are vendor-selected.
What does Elicit say Elicit is?
Elicit positions itself as an AI tool for scientific research and decision-making, from quick answers to multi-month reviews 2. Vendor claim
Where does Elicit work?
A web app at elicit.com, with Chrome and Edge browser extensions for the systematic review workflow on Pro and higher plans 13. The API and MCP server work from Claude Code, Claude Desktop and other MCP clients 9. We found no mobile app on the pages read.
How is Elicit deployed?
Cloud service. The privacy policy says its servers are in the United States 8. The Enterprise plan lists "custom deployments (e.g. single-tenancy)" and SSO and SAML 1; details were not on the pages read.
What limits and constraints does Elicit state?
Paid plans share a single monthly usage pool across the Research Agent, Reports and Systematic Literature Reviews. Unused usage does not roll over, and after the pool runs out, all plans keep the Find Papers skill until the next period 3. Plan tables list how many papers a systematic review can screen (5,000 on Pro; 40,000 on Enterprise) and how many table columns can be added at once (20 on Pro, 30 on Scale, 40 on Enterprise) 1.
What do we know about Elicit data, privacy and security?
Elicit's trust center lists a SOC 2 Type 2 report and a SOC 3 report dated 7.22.26, a Cyber Essentials certification, a HECVAT and a VPAT 7. It names Anthropic and OpenAI as subprocessors whose models "are used to give AI responses" 7. The help center says "PDFs you upload are encrypted and remain private to your account only, until you choose to delete them" 6. The pricing page lists "No training on your data by default" under Enterprise only 1; we found no training statement for the other plans. Status: unverified. Vendor claim
What are the key features of Elicit?
- Research Agent for cited reports, tables, figures and slides 2
- Semantic search over 138 million papers and 545,000 clinical trials 2
- Research Reports and a dedicated Systematic Review workflow 12
- Library, Zotero import and Routines for keeping work current 12
- API and MCP server on Pro and higher plans 9
How much does Elicit cost?
Checked 2026-10-30 on Elicit's pricing page 1. The page's default view is labelled Industry; its text also contains a second listing with a Plus plan. The help center says academic plans are chosen from a dropdown on the pricing page 10, so we believe the second listing is the academic one; we did not confirm that. Prices below are per user a month billed annually; the monthly-billing price was not read.
| Plan | Industry listing | Second listing (likely academic) | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | Free | Free | Limited usage for Research Agent and Reports |
| Plus | Not listed | $11 ($132 a year) | Export to RIS, CSV, BIB, PDF and DOCX |
| Pro | $49 ($588 a year) | $39 ($468 a year) | Systematic review workflow; API access |
| Scale | $229 ($2,748 a year) | $89 ($1,068 a year) | Team collaboration; admin panel |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | Contact sales |
Usage inside each plan is relative: the Industry listing shows Pro at "Standard usage" and Scale at "5x usage" 1. Pro and Scale subscribers can turn on extra usage, billed in $100 increments with a monthly limit they set 3.
What limits should you know about?
- Monthly usage is a pool that varies with the size of each task, and it does not roll over 3.
- Elicit says its results depend on the papers underneath and it does not yet rank study quality 5.
- The privacy policy page is dated 2023, and training terms for non-Enterprise plans were not found; both are unverified.
How do you get started with Elicit?
Sign up for the free Basic plan, search papers, then try a report. A systematic review needs Pro or higher 111.
How will we test Elicit?
We will run a fixed set of research questions with answers we verified in advance, check each cited sentence and extracted value against its paper, repeat runs to measure consistency, run one small systematic review, and record usage consumed and cost per completed task.
How does Elicit compare with Consensus?
Both are AI tools for the academic literature. Elicit's pages stress extraction, screening and systematic reviews 211; see our Consensus review for its own description. Editorial interpretation: the difference we would test first is how each handles table extraction and citation fidelity.
What is the final verdict on Elicit?
Elicit offers a free entry point and a detailed systematic review workflow with published per-user prices. Accuracy, plan-level data terms and the two price listings are the main open questions. Not tested yet. Editorial interpretation
