EU Artificial Intelligence Act, Regulation (EU) 2024/1689
The EU's regulation setting harmonised rules on artificial intelligence was published in the Official Journal on 12 July 2024 and entered into force on 1 August 2024. Its obligations apply in phases. It has since been amended by Regulation (EU) 2026/1744 (the Digital Omnibus on AI), adopted on 8 July 2026.

- Practical implications
- Regulation (EU) 2026/1744 moves the application date of the high-risk rules in Chapter III, Sections 1 to 3, to 2 December 2027 for systems classified as high-risk under Article 6(2) and Annex III, and to 2 August 2028 for systems classified as high-risk under Article 6(1) and Annex I. The earlier date of 2 August 2026 is no longer the date for those rules.
- The same amending regulation adds new prohibitions in Article 5(1a) and 5(1b) that apply from 2 December 2026.
