Where does Kimi K3.1 Pro look strong?

  • Priced at $2 / $10, below the $3 / $15 Moonshot lists for Kimi K3 [2]. Vendor-reported claim
  • Moonshot describes it as "our most capable 3T-class open-weight model to date", a post-trained version of Kimi K3 with substantially larger post-training compute [1]. Vendor-reported claim
  • Structured output with a strict JSON schema, custom tools, tool_choice, dynamic tool loading, automatic context caching, and image and video input are listed [1]. Vendor-reported claim

Where does Kimi K3.1 Pro look weak?

  • The weights were not yet released when we read the page, so "open weights" is a promise, not something to download [1]. Vendor-reported claim
  • The quickstart's benchmark comparisons were unfilled placeholders, so there is no usable vendor benchmark [1]. Editorial interpretation
  • Sampling values are fixed (temperature 1.0, top_p 0.95), and Moonshot does not recommend its web search tool for production use in the near term [1]. Vendor-reported claim
